2011, I knew ye well….this was my 2011 in pictures!

2011 started with a bang and so many things have happened this year that I could have never imagined or planned better myself.

All of the things I’ve experiences in 2011 from ups, downs, highs, lows, achievements, disappointments, happiness, worry, doubt, optimism, it all has made me grow.

And this blog is a good reflection of almost all of 2011 from my voice, my heart, my life..and this post is a reflection of 2011. It’s not everything but the major moments of my life from January 2011 to December 2011, 365 days, 52 weeks, and 12 months of growing, maturing and figuring out my next steps.

January 2011

Bringing in the new year in Washington, DC with my friends.

Meeting Soledad O’Brien during the MLK Birthday Celebration.

February 2011

Last few basketball games as an undergraduate.

Visiting the historic 16th street Baptist Church in Alabama.

March 2011

UNC vs. DOOK game. Last game of the season in Dean Dome and my last home game as a student and of course, we won!

April 2011

The big storm that hit Raleigh and devastated Shaw University — this was one of the best stories I ever did with Carolina Week because I actually covered news story that was a local and national issue and a story that impacted not just the Chapel Hill community but Raleigh community too. It reminded me that this is my job, to tell those stories that aren’t always told.

Coordinated and celebrated CABJ’s 20th anniversary at UNC — of course, one of our events was

May 2011

Sunday, May 8, 2011 — My highly anticipated graduation from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill WITH a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in American History and concentration in Spanish for the Professions — say that five times fast!

Another VERY important graduation — the graduation of my best friend, Latia, from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

And who could forget my SENIOR pictures taken by the lovely Lauren Cowart! Love, love, love all the shots we took and all the locations — because each one represented a certain part of my college career!

June 2011

June was a good month but a tough one, I moved to D.C. to start interning but I also had to say goodbye to friends that I’ve known since freshman year. Definitely bittersweet!

July 2011

My BFF Latia came to visit me in D.C. for the 4th July holiday!

Harry Potter 7, part 2 — the end of my childhood as I know it!

August 2011

Participating with NABJ’s Student Projects in Philadelphia, PA — total whirlwind experience working with people that I will never forget!

August also consisted of my journey to see the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in D.C. And finishing up  my internship with NPR’s Talk of the Nation — also bittersweet!

September 2011

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in Washington, D.C. — probably the most somber place to be other than NYC that day.

October 2011

First homecoming as an alum and celebrating with other fellow 2011 alumni!

Going to the official MLK Memorial dedication that was postponed due to Hurricane Irene but either way, I was there!

November 2011

Turning 23 in a new city and kicking off my Jordan Year with a bang with new friends!

Getting my FIRST JOB after graduation in Washington, D.C. and working full time and moving into my first apartment in Silver Spring, Maryland — I’m in the real world yall!

December 2011

Spending our first Garriss family Christmas in Maryland since I had to work the weekend of Christmas but it’s all good, this will be the first of many Christmases sent away from N.C.

Well, that’s my life in 2011, a year that flew by faster than I could have ever expected and I can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store for me.

God bless, peace and love.

Until next time (and next year),
